Disabling Compression in Windows 95 / 98 / 98SE / ME.
  1. Click on Start / Settings / Control Panel.
  2. Double click the Modems icon.
  3. Click the Properties button.
  4. Click on the Connection file-folder tab.
  5. Click the Advanced... button.
  6. Uncheck where it says Compress Data.
  7. Click all the OK and Close buttons, until there are none and close out of Control Panel.
  8. Restart the computer.

Disabling Compression in Windows XP and Windows 2000.
  1. Click on the Start button.
  2. Click on Control Panel.
    In the Control Panel along the left-side, if it says Switch to Classic View. Click it.
  3. Double click the Phone and Modem Options icon.
  4. Select the Modems file-folder tab.
  5. Highlight your modem and click the Properties button.
  6. Click on the Advance file-folder tab.
  7. Click the Change Default Preferences button.
  8. Where it says Compression: Enabled. Drop the list down and select Disable.
  9. Click all the OK buttons, until there are none and close out of Control Panel.
  10. Restart the computer.
